I recently stumbled upon another great book for web designers called “Don’t Make Me Think” by Steve Krug. Steve is a consultant on web usability and his e-book is available for anyone that cannot really afford his services.
The book really helps us to understand how the ordinary web user thinks and how we must design the layout and content of our web pages to get attention and get through to the users.
Here’s a sample chapter to read: http://www.sensible.com/chapter.html
All web sites on the internet require Internet Marketing Advice. Whether you hire a professional or follow a blog or podcast, you need to know as much as possible to make your site and products successful on the net. There’s one site with a wealth of information both in their blog posts and the free podcasts from Jay, the CEO of 10GoldenRules.com. I highly recommend their blog and podcast for anyone wanting to learn more about successful internet marketing.
I am about 70% complete with a new software tool I am developing to keep the logins for various web sites I work on in a secure local database on my PC. Being a freelance developer I have 100’s of logins to client sites that lies in my Outlook, text files and pieces of paper on my desk. There are some tools on the Internet to organize this information but I decided to take this a step further so that I can just click on a login profile that would automatically log me in to the cPanel, phpMyAdmin an FTP client and so on.
The program sits in the system tray, when you click on the system tray icon you can add new logins, manage existing logins, backup or restore a database or open and login to a site directly by clicking on of the logins you created from the context menu:

All the login information will be stored in an encrypted file using a strong Rijndael encryption algorithm.
I am looking for some beta testers the program should be ready by mid October. If you are interested and would like a complementary free copy when it’s complete sent me an email to erhard@ernic.co.za
